ATHOL, Mass. — Athol Police Department is investigating a reported home invasion that occurred Saturday afternoon on Essex Street in Athol.

According to preliminary information, police were called to a residence at approximately 3:00 p.m. after reports that multiple individuals allegedly entered a home while armed with firearms. The homeowner reportedly fled the residence during the incident and was not injured.

Sources indicate that investigators are also looking into possible connections involving a location on Freedom Street, though authorities have not yet released additional details regarding that aspect of the investigation.

Later in the day, the Athol Police Department released a statement saying investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public at this time.
